The following is the list of the YTD top performer ETFs for 2011. The top performers include PowerShares DB 3x Lonng 25+ Year Treasury Bond ETN (LBND), Direxion Daily 20+ Year Treasury Bull 3X Shares (TMF), ProShares Ultra 20+ Year Treasury (UBT), and more. Most of these top performer funds are part of bond funds, bear market, and gold commodity funds (leverage and non-leverage). I also provide the details of fund’s review below. 1. PowerShares DB 3x Long 25+ Year Treasury Bond ETN (LBND)

The investment objective of this PowerShares DB 3x Long 25+ Year Treasury Bond ETN fund is to achieve 300% daily performance of the DB Long U.S. Treasury Bond Futures index. This Invesco PowerShares fund also has an expense ratio of 0.95%. There is no dividend yield for this fund. Morningstar hasn’t rated this fund yet. It only has $4.97 Million total net assets. The YTD performance is 113.28%.

The long term fund’s performance is still not established hence it is a newly introduced fund. This fund has retruend 35.30% over the past 3 month, and 87.33% over the past 1 year. This ETF is also part of leveraged ETFs.

2. Direxion Daily 20+ Year Treasury Bull 3X Shares (TMF)

This Direxion Daily 20+ Year Treasury Bull 3X Shares funds’ objective is to seek investment return of 300% of the price performance of NYSE 20+ Year US Treasury Bond Index. The annual expense ratio of this top performer bond fund is 1.03%. The dividend yield of this bond fund is 0.46%.

This fund hasn’t been rated by Morningstar. The fund is introduced on April 2009. The total net assets are $28 Million. This fund is categorized as Leveraged Debt Fund.

3. ProShares Ultra 20+ Year Treasury (UBT)

This ProShares Ultra 20+ Year Treasury (UBT) fund’s objective is to achieve twice the daily performance of the Barclays Capital 20+ Year U.S. Treasury Bond Index. The 12-month yield of this UBT fund is 0.96%. The fund has annual expense ratio of 0.95%. The current total assets are $33.39 million. For 2011, the fund has returned 70.36%.

4. Direxion Daily India Bear 2X Shares (INDZ)

The investment objective of this Direxion Daily India Bear 2X Shares (INDZ) fund’s is to seek daily investment results, before fees and expenses, of 200% of the inverse (or opposite) of the price performance of the Indus India Index. The fund typically creates short positions by investing >80% of net assets in financial instruments that, in combination, provide leveraged and unleveraged exposure to the India index, and the remainder in money market instruments. It is considered as non-diversified ETF.

This top performer fund is in the Trading-Inverse Equity category. The annual expense ratio of this fund is 0.95% while the average in the category is 0.93%. The fund currently doesn’t have any yield. The total net assets of this INDZ fund are $4.09 million. This fund first introduced to public in March 2010. Since this fund is still new, there is no rating from Morningstar yet.

5. PIMCO 25+ Year Zero Coupon U.S. Treasury Index ETF (ZROZ)

The PIMCO 25+ Year Zero Coupon U.S. Treasury Index ETF seeks to provide total return that closely corresponds to the total return of the BofA Merrill Lynch Long US Treasury Principal STRIPS Index. This bond fund invests >80% of total assets in the component securities of index. This index is an unmanaged index that tracks the performance of long dated U.S. Treasury principal STRIPS. Note: STRIPS = Separate Trading of Registered Interest and Principal of Securities.

This PIMCO fund has total net assets of $59.91 million. The current dividend yield of this fund is 3.04%. The fund has 0.15% annual expense ratio which is comparable to the average in the category (0.16%).
This fund was first introduced to public in October 2009. Morningstar hasn’t rated this fund yet. This fund is in the category of Exchange Traded Fund. The annual holdings turnover is 50%.
